Joelene Moodley

Is an admitted attorney with more than 20 years post admission experience. Joelene having worked in both private and public sectors has extensive experience in Pension Fund Management, Risk Management, Corporate and Commercial Law, Corporate Governance and Compliance.
After spending time at the Centre of Human Rights and with the Auditor General of South Africa, she joined the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) where she had held various executive management positions. Her portfolios included Legal, Compliance, HR, Finance, IT, Secretariat. In 2013, she was appointed the GEPF’s Acting Principal Executive Officer and tasked to oversee and manage the operations of the Pension Fund with an asset base of +/- ZAR 1.5 trillion. Her management of the Fund saw the Fund grow by 14.1% in 2015
She has interacted with various public and private entities i.e. The Public Investment Corporation (PIC), National Treasury, the World Bank & the Development Bank of South Africa. She has also appeared before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Finance
Joelene also practised as a commercial attorney with RW Africa Attorneys for a period of two years.
She is a member of Law Society of South Africa. Joelene currently serves as a Principal Officer of the Sanlam Umbrella Fund and is a member of its Communication after serving two prior terms as independent employee representative trustee on the fund.
Currently Ms Moodley serves as Trustee and Chairperson on several section 26(2) Boards of Trustees, of certain Liberty dormant and reinstated funds.
Ms Moodley also has been appointed as independent trustee and Chairperson on the Board of the Fairheads Unclaimed Benefit Preservation Pension and Provident Fund and is a member of its Death Claims Committee.
